Operating Procedures and Precautions for Box-Type Resistance Furnaces
Box-type resistance furnace Operating Procedures and Precautions
I. Operating Procedures
1. Preparation Phase
- Equipment Inspection: Before operation, first inspect the enclosure of the box-type resistance furnace to ensure it is intact, and check the power cord, controller, and interior of the furnace chamber for any damage or foreign objects. Ensure that the furnace door is properly sealed.
- Preheating preparation: Based on experimental or production requirements, set the appropriate heating temperature and holding time, and preheat the resistance furnace to a temperature within a specified range below the set point to minimize thermal shock.
- Placing the Sample: Use a dedicated crucible or container to gently place the sample to be heated inside the furnace chamber, taking care to prevent the samples from touching one another to avoid contamination or uneven heat transfer.

2. Operation Process
- Starting the equipment: After confirming that all settings are correct, connect the power supply and press the start button or initiate the heating program via the controller.
- Temperature Monitoring: During the heating process, closely monitor the temperature changes displayed on the temperature controller to ensure that the furnace temperature rises according to the preset heating curve. If any abnormalities are detected, make timely adjustments or shut down the equipment for inspection.
- Data Recording: According to the experimental requirements, record key data during the heating process, such as the initial temperature, the time taken to reach the target temperature, and the duration of heat preservation.
3. Final stage
- Natural cooling or forced cooling: Depending on the sample characteristics and experimental requirements, either allow the sample to cool naturally to room temperature or activate the forced cooling system (if equipped).
- Removing the sample: After the furnace temperature has cooled to a safe range, open the furnace door and carefully remove the sample using dedicated tools to prevent burns.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Turn off the power, clean the interior of the furnace chamber to remove any residue, and keep the chamber clean and tidy. Inspect the furnace door seal to ensure safe operation next time.
II. Precautions
1. Safe Operation
- Before commencing operations, be sure to wear appropriate protective equipment, such as work uniforms, heat-resistant gloves, and safety goggles, to prevent burns from high temperatures.
- Flammable and explosive materials are prohibited from being placed around the resistance furnace, and adequate ventilation must be maintained.
- During furnace heating, the furnace door must remain closed to prevent hot air from escaping and causing injury or a sudden drop in temperature that could compromise the heating process.
2. Temperature control
- When setting the temperature, consider the sample’s physical properties, such as its melting and boiling points, to prevent overheating and potential safety hazards.
- Regularly inspect the accuracy and stability of the temperature controller to ensure controllability and safety during the heating process.
3. Equipment Maintenance
- Regularly clean and maintain the resistance furnace, inspect power cords, heating elements, and other components for wear, and promptly replace any damaged parts.
- Ensure uniformity of the heating elements within the furnace chamber; promptly address any localized overheating or damage to prevent adverse effects on heating performance and equipment lifespan.
4. Emergency Response
- If any abnormal conditions are detected, such as uncontrolled temperature or electrical leakage, the power supply shall be immediately disconnected, and the situation shall be handled in accordance with the emergency response plan.
- Be familiar with and proficient in the operation of fire-fighting equipment to enable rapid extinguishment or containment of fires in emergency situations.
Strict adherence to the aforementioned operating procedures and precautions will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the box-type resistance furnace, thereby guaranteeing the smooth conduct of experiments or production activities.
